Her photographs stand out to me because they weren't taken at any odd angle, she just photographed life the way it is.

Brief Biography: Dorthea LangeDorothea Lange was born as Dorothea Nutzhorn on May 26, 1895, in Hoboken, New Jersey. Heinrich Nutzhorn, her dad, was a lawyer, and her mother, Johanna, stayed at home to raise Dorothea and her brother. When she was 7, Dorothea got polio, which left her right leg and foot weakened. But later in her life she says, "[It] was the most important thing that happened to me, and formed me, guided me, instructed me, helped me and humiliated me.” As Dorothea approached her teen years, her parents divorced, and blamed the separation on her father. She eventually dropped his surname and took her mother’s maiden name, and left on her own. Following high school, Lange, who’d never shown much interest in academics, decided to pursue photography as a profession. She studied art at Columbia University, and then, over the next several years, she worked for several different photographers, including Arnold Genthe, a leading portrait photographer. By 1918, Lange was living in San Francisco and soon running a successful portrait studio. With her husband, muralist Maynard Dixon, she had two sons and settled into the comfortable middle-class life she’d known as a child. During the Great Depression, Dorothea Lange photographed the unemployed men who wandered the streets in San Fransico. In 1940, she received the Guggenheim Fellowship.great Depression
